Campus Network :

Network Information
Student Owned Computers

Students may bring their own computers to campus. Each dorm room has at least 2 network connections providing access to email and the Internet. The bedrooms in the apartments have 1 connection. Southern Wesleyan University provides instructions and training opportunities on how to connect their Windows computers to the network. Students are responsible for bringing their computers in good working order, with network cards installed and a surge protector. We strongly recommend 3Com Etherlink 10/100Base-TX cards for PC compatibles. You will also need one Category 5 network cable 6'-20' in length.

Recommended PC system:
  • 500 MHz Pentium II
  • Windows 98 SE, Millineum, 2000, XP Home or XP Professional
  • 128 MB RAM
  • 16 GB Hard Drive
  • 8 MB video memory
  • 24x CD ROM Drive
  • Color monitor with 1024x768 resolution
  • 2 Button Mouse w/ scroll wheel
  • Standard 102 Keyboard
  • 3COM 10/100BASE-TX Ethernet Card
  • Surge Protector
  • Virus Protection

Minimum Requirement PC system:

  • 350 MHz Pentium II
  • Windows 95
  • 64 MB RAM
  • 8 GB Hard Drive
  • Color monitor w/ SVGA (800x600) resolution
  • 2 Button Mouse
  • Standard 101 Keyboard
  • 10/100BASE-T Ethernet Card
  • Virus Protection
  • Additional 10/100Base-TX 3 Com Etherlink network cards - $40
  • Category 5 network cables (price based on length)
  • 10/100Base-TX Type II PCMCIA network card for Notebook/laptop computers - $40

Fee for connecting to the school network is $40 and includes one Cat5 network cable.
