Windows 95/98
Network Connection Instructions

After installing the ethernet card, restart the computer and follow these instructions for configuration:

  • Click the start button.
  • Choose settings
  • Select control panel
  • The following window will appear on the monitor:

  • Double-click the Network icon. The window below will be displayed. The window may not appear exactly as it does below; the text may be different and there may be more options.

  • Click the "ADD" button. You will see a window like this one:

  • Select Protocol
  • Choose Add. The following window will appear:

  • Highlight Microsoft.Choose TCP/IP.
  • Click the OK button.
  • You may now be required to insert the Windows 95/98 cdrom or floppy disks.
  • When finished, this window will appear:

  • Highlight TCP/IP ***If there is more than one TCP/IP option, make sure you select the one that corresponds with the ethernet
  • Choose Properties
  • When the following window appears, you may need to choose 'Obtain an IP address automatically' if it has not been preselected.

  • Go to WINS Configuration. The following window should appear:

  • Click on 'Use DHCP for WINS Resolution'
  • Choose DNS Configuration. You should see this window:

  • Enable.
  • At Host, enter your dorm and room number (i.e. Babcock201). Delete any other information.
  • Go to Gateway. You should see a screen like this one:

  • Remove all installed gateways.
  • Finally, you will see the following window:

  • The network configuration is now complete. Select yes and restart the computer
